Ernest Bloch (1880 – 1859) was a highly individual composer. His music has a distinctive voice and embraces a variety of influences such as Renaissance, neo-Classical, neo-Romantic, Swiss, Native American, Chinese, Jewish and Gregorian Chant. He wrote for voices and instruments of many combinations. His music is deeply emotional and is beloved by the public and inspirational for musicians. Many distinguished orchestras and soloists including contemporary cellists Raphael Wallfisch, Steven Isserlis and Natalie Clein, have recorded works by Ernest Bloch which have received considerable acclaim.
